What We DO

our story

The foundation focus is on activities at the intersection of health and information and communications technologies (ICTs), including mobile health (mHealth), health information technology, electronic health records (EHRs), and telehealth and encompassing three main
functions:

  • The delivery of health information, for healthcare specialists and health users, through various ICTs.
  • The use of ICTs to improve public health services (e.g., through the education and training of health personnel).
  • The use of Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) to capture, store, manage, or transmit data on patient health or health facility location and capabilities.

Foundation Key

The Foundation Key Activities Include:

The activities of the foundation are designed to achieve specific outcome goals related to the need for quality and timely data collection in different health-program categories within the East African Region. This includes:
1. Improve direct-to-patient care, community knowledge and services, as well as patient education for preventive care and behavior change.

2. Share health records to improve access, continuity and efficiency of care and support portability of Universal Health Coverage (UHC)at the regional level.

3. Support capacity building through training, knowledge sharing, and performance management.

4. Build capacity and improve surveillance to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious diseases, emergencies, and outbreaks.
5. Improve supply chain efficiency and pharmaceutical products procurement, and economies of scale through better tracking and pooled procurement.
6. Develop a long-term sustainable financing strategy, facilitate resource planning, management, tracking that optimizes resource mobilization and deployment, promotion of Value Based Healthcare Financing.
7. Optimize data sharing, track regional priority patient indicators, and promote use of health research to support health policies and health agenda.

Our Core Intervention Areas

  • Readily Available quality data sourced at all levels, especially in community healthcare on Mobile enabled community health workers: support connectivity, innovative data collection and innovative frontier applications to improve community health.
  • Open Access to data via better data management and integrated systems on national, regional, and community levels.
    Integrated Systems: support data standards and interoperability frameworks, health information system integration and analytic engines and dashboards.
  • Quality Data to facilitate strategic insights and inform decision-making on all levels.
  • Capacity & leadership: build capacities of healthcare workers and decision makers on data usage.
  • Use of data for healthcare workers and managers and to enhance response to public health threats or Effective Global Goods Markets: support the development and deployment at scale of digital tools and content that can be freely used across countries.
